Purpose and Scope of the JobPlans, directs, administers and supervises activities for patients. Reports to the Medical Director on matters relating to the operation of the patient care division and maintain contact with the Head of Department.Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards1Ensures implementation of the Ministry of Health regulations, the Hospital Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and the Department Policy and Guidelines.2Diagnosis and treatment of patients referred to department and responsible to run his own clinic.3Performs all surgical procedures according to the clinical privileges granted to him.4Examines, diagnoses, and treats diseases and injuries of musculoskeletal system by surgical and conservative means and application of corrective mechanical devices.5Prepares and reviews case histories and obtains data through interviews.6Examines patients and determines x-ray examinations and clinical laboratory tests required. Interprets test results and evaluates examination findings.7Determines procedures for preoperative and postoperative care such as administering sedatives, prescribing diets, and preparing operative area of patients8Applies surgical procedures and coordinates operation with anesthesiologist.9Reduces and immobilizes fractures by open or closed methods, using such corrective devices as braces, casts, and splints.10Administers and prescribes such conservative measures of treatment as antibiotics, drugs, and compresses.11Treats patients suffering from surgical shock, post operative hemorrhage, and other complications.12Manages orthopedic surgery services. Formulates plans and procedures for orthopedic surgery services. Schedules operations and assigns surgeons, nurses, and medical technicians.13Directs nurses in procedures for preoperative and postoperative care and operating room techniques14Coordinates orthopedic surgery services with other medical activities.15Maintains the highest professional standard of documentation in line with policies and procedures and internationally accepted standards.16The Consultant will review outpatient's summaries and shall prepare reports and statistical analysis as required of him; such reports will be prepared in a timely manner in accordance with the standards within the Department.17Keeps current with new procedures and techniques in the field of his specialty.18Required to be involved in the departmental Performance Improvement activities19Participates in providing education and support for all junior staff in the department and supports continuing medical education, providing teaching materials as part of the professional development of the staff.20Has a responsibility to report any occurrence not consistent with the operation of the Clinic or standard of service for patients, employees or visitors and situations which put patients, staff and visitors at risk of injury or other harm.21Provides leadership for organizational performance improvement activities. Participates in committee membership.22Maintains strictest confidentiality.23Co-ordinates and exercises overall professional control over the activities of Medical Registrars for ensuring that sound administrative and professional standards of medical practice are maintained.24Provides overall responsibility for all medical in-patients, out patients and emergencies.
