Archive Researcher/Writer
American International University -Job Overview:The Archive Researcher/Writer supports the Library’s mission to preserve, organize, and share the university’s archival collections. This position combines historical research, clear writing, and engaging storytelling to make the archives accessible and meaningful for students, faculty, researchers, and the wider community. The role also contributes to outreach activities, content development, and the continuous improvement of archival resources and services.Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research using archival materials and interpret historical information accurately.
  • Create, compose, and edit written materials for the archives, including collection descriptions, blogs, manuals, and reference guides that raise awareness and encourage engagement.
  • Develop and maintain indices, bibliographies, subject taxonomies, and other reference tools related to the archives.
  • Organize resources, establish priorities, and help define workflows that support efficient archive operations.
  • Describe archival collections in line with accepted standards and practices; map and arrange collections according to established indexing rules.
  • Liaise with cataloging to ensure newly processed collections are added to the library catalog with appropriate metadata for online access and discoverability.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Archives unit to align plans and procedures with the Collection Processing units.
  • Provide research assistance to students, faculty, and external researchers; participate in exhibitions, content production, and university-wide research activities based on archival materials.
  • Maintain accurate records to ensure consistency and quality in all aspects of archival work.
  • Participate in outreach functions such as preparing instructional materials, instructing researchers, curating exhibits, and hosting public archive events.
  • Assist with special archive projects as needed.
  • Develop content that raises awareness and engagement with the archives through various channels.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in History and/or English-language literature, with a strong grounding in other Social Sciences or Humanities disciplines.
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to read Arabic.
  • Proficient in MS Office and other relevant technical skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to excellence; continuously strives to improve work performance and explore new technologies and tools.
